when a loved one leaves the watchtower society .

napa wt child abuse case.
two important court decisions, which came out of napa valley, ca, are now available for us to post on jwd.
these significant rulings overturn objections regularly made by the watchtower in recent lawsuits and may serve as a precedent for future lawsuits.
Jourles, thanks for posting that little gem, very enlightening.
Nice how the Watchtower can simply dictate to the congregations, "add this to your corporate charter"!
However, it still does not demonstrate that the Halls are owned by the Society. Just the opposite, since then this whole letter would be moot. And although it indicates that the assets would go to the Society, this would only be after the "the winding up and dissolution" of the corporation.
Incidentally, for those that don't know: This wording was added after some congregation in TX en masse left the WT, and took the Kingdom Hall (which the congregation paid for) with them.
I have heard about that incident, but even in a case like that, I don't think the wording here would help the Society. They could dissolve the congregation, but if the entire "corporation" decides to break away, and the Hall is paid for, well, too bad for the Tower.
No, their strategy to prevent this from happening again seems to be, keep the Kingdom Halls constantly mortgaged to the Society. Thats why perfectly good Halls are either sold and replaced with a new building, or subjected to expensive remodeling projects.

the WT used to protect their assets (retaining HQ ownership of all kingdom halls),
I'm still waiting for anyone to provide proof that the WT owns Kingdom Halls. Every Kingdom Hall I have ever been associated with has been owned by a local corporation. Thats why every year there is a "corporate meeting", usually following a Service Meeting.

you all have been so helpful to me, much thanks to you guys.. due to the recent posts about df'ing and the like i was wondering what would happen to me.
i'm 19 soon to be 20, i'm an unbaptized publisher but i want to fade and leave this crappola.
my plan is to first finish school and move out and move on.
Well you've made it to age 19 and avoided getting dunked, that's a good thing. The best way to handle having a worldly boyfriend is to keep it on the down-low as much as possible. Hopefully he will realize you are not embarrassed by him and that its not because you dont want to be seen with him, its just that your family is in a wacky religion. I am sure there are dozens of people here who can easily explain it to him if he has a hard time understanding your situation.
Elders do not have Super powers, the only way for them to find out you are dating or whatever is if you tell them. Well, or if someone else tells them. Loose lips sink ships. Even then, you are 19, you are not baptized, they have zero control over you.
Let me repeat this: They have zero control over you.
Unfortunately, they don't always realize this fact. But that's their problem, not yours.
It sounds like your main concern is how your parents will react. I don't know your whole situation, but once you become financially independent and get out from under their roof you will have much more freedom and your fade can progress much more rapidly. I'm not saying you have to move out onto the street or with a boyfriend who may or may not be the right guy just this instant, but that should be your longterm goal. If you have to be a little secretive about your life and your personal affairs until that happens, well, call it theocratic warfare.
Did I mention that as an adult who has never been baptized, the elders have zero control over you?

i would like to make it aware to some friends that i have read some 'apostate' sites, so i can share my doubts with them.
i'm hoping that they'll keep what i tell them to themselves, but what i was wondering is, if i did this could i risk getting disfellowshipped if my friends told the elders?
all my family and friends are still very much a part of the organisation, and so i am not ready to be shunned yet.
Reading apostate literature is NOT a disfellowshipping offense.
Technically this may be true. But as you noted, "your mileage may vary" and the fact of the matter is that if it becomes known that you are reading apostate literature, you can be about 95% certain you will be called in front of a judicial commitee, and DFing is a very real possibity barring very liberal and/or lazy elders or an exorbitant display of "what was I thinking, how very foolish of me to ever even glance at such evil evil material!!!" on your part.

i received this from someone who needs to be anonymous....this one will turn your stomach.
it's supposedly from a sister in the brazil branch.
perhaps so, but the timeline of the story and age of the individual weren't clear to me as i read it.
If I remember well, pope Bento XVI (aka Benedict) became pope at the end of April 2005. If Valdir had "much contact" with him then we must conclude that he knew him for let's say a month. Now we're at the end of May 2005. So according to the timeline in the story, Valdir came in contact with the JWs, became an unbaptized publisher doing 70 hours a month and expressed his desire to be baptized in July 2005.. all in a time span of about 45 days?
The only way this works is if he knew and worked with Benedict back before he became Pope. But they should have made that more clear.
And I agree with others, the whole thing smells slightly fishy, especially when he calls home and guess what, his familiy is all JW too!?!?!

my friend marion has just arrived at my home, and she certainly has had an interesting few days!
she hasn't been attending meetings lately, and on saturday the po from her hall phoned to ask why.
actually, he had phoned several times before, and left messages, but she hasn't been replying and, in his own words, he is very concerned as to what, if anything, is wrong.. she remembers the conversation fairly well (pity she couldn't record it), and it went like this:.
To be fair, it sounds like the PO is only "doing his job", some one has stopped attending meetings and he is checking in to see what's going on. I think we have heard of a lot of cases where people stop showing up and no one ever called or checked on them. It sounds like he was at least trying to be tactful about it.
But yes at some point they will likely try to talk yo your friend face to face, and if they find out the real reason she stopped attending, then yes there could be trouble.

over the last two weeks since i posted about my wife taking me to the elders, i have been working very hard to save my marriage.
i have made arrangements for babysitting so that we can go out at least once or twice a week.
we have taken in a movie, gone for a walk, gone to the beach, gone to the museum, gone to a jazz concert and just yesterday we went to a coffee house and talked over a nice cup of joe.
People that become a JW usually have a need or problem give them that need solve there problem and they will drop the JW's like a ton of bricks. Maybe she like being with people that give rather than take?
S.S. are you saying that JWs are givers?
You are either a JW troll or have no idea what you are talking about.
Maybe you should go back and read enlightenecynics earlier posts... its his wife who is trying to control him, not the other way around...

recently i had the pleasure to examine a stash of 1920s and 1930s golden age magazines, among the rarest of watchtower publications.
i thought it would be a fun idea to have a thread in which i share with you some of the amazing, ridiculous, hilarious things contained therein.
hence, this is the first post of a series of excerpts, scans, etc.
from the article about WBBR that VM44 posted:
Judge Rutherford died in 1942 and was buried at Rossville in a Methodist cemetary within sight of the WBBR towers.
???? Ok now I know there have been threads here before on this topic... can someone give me a quick summary on just where da Judge was buried?

i think this is the first clear, official statement regarding hemoglobin-based products.
awake!
august 2006, front page title "blood: why so valuable?".
Ok I may be in the minority(not for the first time), but I think once again the Society is doing a double-speak dance, but not in the direction most of you seem to be taking it. Here's what I mean.
I think for years they have been secretly waiting for the invention of some kind artificial blood or substitute blood, something that would get them out of the corner they painted themselves into with their silly blood policy. For them the best thing that could happen would be a blood substitute that would make their "Scripturally based" prohibition on blood moot. I think they thought that by now either there would be a blood substitute or the end would be here.
Of course, this has not happened yet. And in the meantime, they also have realized the potential legal liability they would face if they were to simply drop the ban on blood. Gary mentioned how they dropped the ban on organ donations without much fuss, those were simpler times, with fewer lawyers. So we see how in recent years while they relax some of the blood rules, they continue to defend the doctrine on grounds of religious freedom.
I think that with this new Awake article, its a cover, they don't want to appear to eager to accept this, thus the rumblings about meditating, conscience, blah blah. In the real world, HLCs will be saying YES!!! take it!!! its ok!!! As one HLC member told a family member of mine: "Its a conscience matter, that means its ok to take it!"
Of course, I assume the guys at the top are rational. Sneaky, but rational. If they are really seriously off their rockers, then yes, it could be that peope will be DFd/DAd for accepting these products.
